We are shocked and saddened at the sudden death of our reporter, leading Liberian journalist Prince Collins. Prince was a presenter with Voice of Firestone radio station and a regular contributor to Voice of America. He was also a proud and loving husband and father. He died today after a short illness.
Prince had a long, proud career as a journalist with Talking Drum radio station, Radio Veritas, Front Page Africa and others before joining Voice of Firestone. He reported for IRIN and RFI and led the team of reporters on the BBC program Kick Ebola from Liberia. Prince won awards including the one he cherished the most, the 2014 PUL prize for Liberian Business Reporter of the Year. He served as a fixer for our founder Prue Clarke way back in 2005 and was always a warm, welcoming, energetic presence who impressed everyone who knew him.
Prince’s death comes way too soon. Our thoughts are with his family, his colleagues and Liberia which has lost an important journalistic voice. We will miss your smile and humor Prince. RIP. You are our chief.
