Job Title: PT Editorial Consultant
Job Location: Monrovia, Liberia
Time: 2-3 days a week over four months
Remuneration: competitive
New Narratives seeks a highly experienced editor to support and mentor our Liberia team in journalism production and project management skills.

Principal Responsibilities:
1. Editorial –will work with the Executive Director and Editor to support editorial staff and “fellows” to:
- research story ideas
- prepare strong pitches
- commission storiesreport and write
- Edit
- Mentor staff and reporters to reach high standards of journalism as well as audio and photographic production.
- Support productions ensuring diverse and inclusive panels come from government, business, CSO and activists
- Support creation of workshop agenda including choosing and coordinating facilitators, supporting workshop planning and logistics.
- Co-lead workshop training
2. Partnerships – Support NN’s staff contact points with stakeholders: donors and potential donors, community organizations government and activists. Support staff to keep in regular contact with stakeholders to ensure NN knows about themes, issues, developments, policy changes and opportunities in thematic areas that our grants cover. He/she will support staff to keep in close contact with media partners to ensure a strong partnership where feedback, engagement are encouraged and trust is built.
3. Monitoring and Evaluation – Editorial Director will support staff in Monitoring and Evaluation efforts. He/she will help design M&E, ensure quizzes and surveys are undertaken, contribute to analysis of data and reassessments of the project based on the results.
4. Finance – will support staff in ensuring compliance with financial procedures.
Jobholder Entry Requirements – the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours required
Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
· 8+ years as a journalist with leading independent newsroom/s
·Lived experience of Liberia with demonstrated knowledge of major issues including extractives, gender and children’s rights, climate change, justice, corruption.
· Educated to a bachelor’s level or above, or significant experience of leadership within journalism.
· Excellent knowledge of current issues and best practice in journalism methods, ethics, skills and technology to support investigative journalism.
· Experience training journalists and imparting high standards of fact-checking, data-gathering as well as legal issues and conflict sensitivity.
· Analytical thinking and ability to plan strategically from organisational perspective.
· Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, partners and work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional teams.
· Proven ability to initiate, innovate and translate ideas into effective action plans.
· Excellent oral and writing skills
