Drug abuse is a growing problem in Liberia. There is no reliable data on user numbers but one study, by the United Nations Population Fund, found a staggering one in five Liberian youth take narcotics. 
Africa is now a key major transit route for cocaine, heroin and marijuana from South America to Europe. Police say addiction is driving Monrovia’s growing rates of crime, as addicts steal to fund their habits.
