Location: Monrovia, Liberia

New Narratives is seeking an experienced finance and administration officer to support our projects in Africa. Must be a team player with a strong work ethic and desire to support our mission of building quality, independent journalism that gives audiences the information they need to hold leaders to account and drive change. 

Time: Full Time (40 hours a week/5 days)

Remuneration: $1,200 to $1,500 a month (depending on experience) plus health insurance.

Job description

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Prepare and process accounting transactions such as disbursement, cash receipts etc.
  • Maintain and track supporting documents for audits and verification.
  • Assist the Director of Finance and Administration to ensure an effective management of the financial resources according to the New Narratives Liberia Inc. procedures.
  • Ensure the compliance of administration, finance policies and procedures.
  • Filing of tax and social security returns and collect receipts.
  • Maintain accurate bank records of cash withdrawals and deposits.
  • Ensure that transactions are processed on time and that they are accurate and complete.
  • Provide support role in audits (internal and external) including preparation of documents for internal, external and donor audits)
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance of office equipment.
  • Prepare payment request according to internal procedures of the organization.
  • Oversee logistics and other administrative tasks required.
  • Provide administrative, logistical, and procurement support to the team, including payment to events participants, transportation and accommodation arrangements, and ongoing operations.
  • Facilitate the renewal of various licenses and registrations.
  • Update of New Narratives websites and social media accounts.
  • Other duties related to Finance and Administration as assigned by the Director of Finance and Administration.
  • In all duties, understand and demonstrate commitment to upholding New Narratives values.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree or internationally recognized professional qualification in Accounting, Finance, administration, or another closely related field.
  • At least five years’ experience in administration, finance and accounting, with excellent understanding of administration, finance and accounting-related issues. Experience with international donors including European and United States governments is helpful.
  • Must be conversant with administration, financial and accounting terminologies.
  • Good time management skills and ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Must be dynamic and take initiative.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to work on a multicultural team and maintain effective communication with colleagues.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Familiarity with Internet resources and programs such as Excel, Word, and Outlook; knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software.

This position is being offered as 40 hours or 5 days a week.
