Base salary: $1200- $1500 per month depending on experience, plus medical insurance and four weeks paid annual leave.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a hard working, passionate and knowledgeable Climate, Environment, and Science Reporter to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental issues and/or science, a commitment to public-interest journalism, and the ability to translate complex topics into engaging, accessible writing. This role offers the opportunity to explore the intersections of climate, policy, equity, and innovation through investigative reporting, features, and breaking news.
Please note: prior journalism experience is not essential, but you must be a strong writer and researcher and have a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Reporting:
• Report on climate change, environmental justice, biodiversity, sustainability, and emerging science issues.
• Investigate the impacts of policies, corporate practices, and scientific discoveries on communities, especially underserved populations.
Story Development:
• Pitch, research, and produce compelling stories across digital, print, and multimedia platforms.
• Collaborate with editors and multimedia teams to develop in-depth features, data-driven reports, audio and visual storytelling pieces.
Community Engagement:
• Build trusted relationships with experts, policymakers, scientists, activists, and local communities to deepen storytelling.
• Attend and cover events such as climate summits, scientific conferences, and community forums.
Fact-Checking and Analysis:
• Ensure all reporting is accurate, balanced, and rooted in scientific evidence and trusted sources.
• Simplify complex scientific and environmental issues for a broad audience without sacrificing nuance.
Innovation and Collaboration:
• Explore innovative formats for storytelling, including podcasts, interactive graphics, and video.
• Partner with other reporters and organizations to amplify stories and expand their reach.
Qualifications:
• Strong bachelor’s degree in journalism, environmental science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• At least 3 years of experience in working in an area with a focus on climate, science, environmental or agriculture issues preferred.
• Strong writing and storytelling skills.
• Knowledge of digital audio and visual editing software or proven technological aptitude and interest in learning these skills.
• Ability to analyze data and interpret scientific studies for a general audience.
• Familiarity with climate policy, environmental justice, and sustainability trends.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments under deadlines.
• Team player with ability to support work of other members of the team.
• Entrepreneurial attitude with strong personal drive.
