Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith

Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith is a Ghanaian broadcast journalist, documentary storyteller, and
photojournalist based in the Upper East Region. A journalist with A1 Radio Bolgatanga, he is
known for development-focused reporting on governance, economic issues, accountability,
and the challenges facing underserved communities. Through radio, photography, and
documentary filmmaking, he amplifies voices often overlooked in national discourse,
particularly in northern Ghana.
His reporting frequently examines digital inclusion, economic empowerment, public
accountability, and access to essential services. In 2025, he was named Economics and
Finance Reporter of the Year at the Upper East Regional awards of the Ghana Journalists
Association, in recognition of his ability to make complex economic issues accessible and
relevant to ordinary citizens. He has also received national recognition through a nomination
for Energy Reporter of the Year at the Ghana Energy Awards.
Beyond the newsroom, Smith is actively involved in journalism training, civic engagement,
and youth empowerment initiatives. He has participated in investigative journalism
fellowships focused on financial accountability and governance, while contributing to
transparency and public-interest initiatives that promote citizen participation. Through his
reporting and community engagement, he continues to connect grassroots concerns to
national policy conversations and development priorities.
