New Narratives is pleased to call for applications from leading Ghanaian journalists to join our project supporting fact-based, people-centered journalism on issues of air pollution in Ghana. Air pollution kills 6.7 million people around the world every year. 91% of those premature deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries.
Air pollution is the second biggest threat to health in Ghana and causes 28,000 deaths a year.
The project is generously supported by the Clean Air Fund, a philanthropic initiative tackling global air pollution, that works with governments, funders, businesses and campaigners to deliver clean air for all as fast as possible. The NN journalism project will form part of Clean Air Fund’s overall project to improve the air quality in Ghana.
Journalists with at least three years’ experience are invited to apply to join New Narratives as reporting fellows for a project on air pollution and climate change.
Ten fellows will join New Narratives from August 16, 2023 for ten months of intensive training in areas including Air Pollution and Climate Change, Solutions, explanatory and investigative journalism, audio, video and photographic production. Fellows will be eligible for generous grants and mentoring for investigations. The program is a major commitment – but it will also be a rewarding one.
The first training workshop will take place Wednesday 16th – Friday 18th August 2023. Attendance is compulsory.
We are looking for journalists who:
- Report for national media outlets in Ghana. Print, online, radio or television journalists are eligible – and should have the support of their editor/management to fully participate in the program. (Management will be required to provide a letter of support to successful applicants.)
- Have at least 3 years of professional experience as a journalist.
- Have demonstrated a commitment to doing in-depth, people-centered journalism in a fair and balanced manner with a view to keeping leaders accountable and providing honest information to Ghanaians.
Please note: journalists taking part in the program must report in an independent manner and not take payment from any sources in the course of their reporting. Fellows found to have taken such payments will be expelled from the program. Participants will be required to sign an agreement to this effect.
