Aria Deemie Assistant Editor and Climate, Environment and Science correspondent

Aria Deemie is an award-winning Liberian journalist, fact-checker, and digital content creator with a passion for social impact reporting. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and is awaiting her masters in Clinical Social Work at Stella Maris Polytechnic University, after completing her coursework. Aria combines the deep understanding of community dynamics that her studies have given her with rigorous, ethical journalism.

Formerly with Local Voices Liberia, an Internews-backed project, Aria produced fact-checking content, trained journalists and students in media literacy, and hosted the popular radio segment Facts vs. Fiction. Her multimedia work spans investigative reporting, radio production, and social media coordination—using every platform to expose underreported issues and amplify marginalized voices.

Aria’s journalism has earned her Press Union of Liberia awards – Health Reporter of the Year (2021/2022) and Trafficking in Persons Reporter of the Year (2020/2021). Her reporting has influenced national dialogue, particularly around vaccine hesitancy during COVID-19 and the government’s anti-human trafficking stance.

As a published fellow with Africa Check, APBF, and leading Liberian outlets like FrontPage Africa she has explored topics ranging from sanitation crises to climate change and economic hardships affecting education. Her dedication to public service is matched by grassroots experience—leading community projects on mask distribution, youth development, and sanitation awareness.

Aria is an alum of the Oxford Climate Journalism fellowship and has certifications from Africa Check, ECOWAS, Internews, and others. She is committed to professional growth and regional collaboration. She brings clarity, compassion, and credibility to every story she tells—believing journalism can be a force for justice and empowerment.
