As Development Associate, Sanshey Biswas supports the leadership team in making New Narratives’ journalism projects more sustainable. He has developed donation campaigns for partner newsrooms and helped diversify their revenue. He has worked on upgrading advertising portfolios to leverage a growing and engaged digital audience, as well as launching editorially-driven subscription products.
He has been a journalist and media trainer for over a decade. In that time, he has worked with journalists from over 15 countries in leveraging video and social media for growth and revenue. He continues to build on that by developing strategies and workflows that help newsrooms and journalists reach wider audiences in innovative and engaging ways.
Starting his career as a print journalist in 2014 at a weekly newspaper in India, Sanshey quickly gravitated to working on digital platforms. His eagerness to experiment with new platforms and tools helped him quickly grow from being a reporter to being trusted with managing editorial workflows and strategies.
He is a self-taught multimedia journalist who loves to continue learning from and with his colleagues spread across the globe. His work has appeared in Mongabay, FrontPage Africa, Vice, GroundTruth Project, AJ Contrast, Outlook Magazine, Hindu BusinessLine, Hindustan Times and others.
As a trainer, Sanshey has worked with hundreds of journalists across Africa, Asia and Latin America. These trainings have been supported by a number of organizations including U.S. Agency For Global Media, Creative Commons, Google News Initiative, Internews, KAS Media and Meta Journalism Project.
He is passionate about covering stories at the intersection of environment and tech in all the mediums — audio, visual and text. He has also mentored cohorts of journalists on covering complex topics like renewable energy and just transitions.
