New Narratives is thrilled to welcome Josephine Boakai Sumo to join our Africa team in the role of Finance and Administration Officer. Josephine is based in our Monrovia office and supports our teams in Liberia, Ghana and The Gambia.

Josephine Sumo is a seasoned finance and administration professional with a Master’s in Business Administration (Auditing and Control) from Kristianstad University, Sweden. She brings over eight years of experience spanning Liberia’s shipping, legal, and nonprofit sectors, with a strong focus on budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.

She most recently served as Assistant Manager for Finance and Administration at Sharaf Shipping Agency, where she led financial operations, ensured compliance, and oversaw audits. She was instrumental in establishing the agency’s financial systems and operations during its Liberian launch.

Previously, as Administrative and Finance Officer at the Liberian National Bar Association, Josephine managed donor funds, implemented new systems, and successfully coordinated audits covering three years of operations. Her career began at OBT Shipping Liberia, where she improved cash management and reporting processes.

An active member of the Swedish Institute Alumni Network – Liberia, Josephine served as Treasurer and was recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation for her contributions.

She is proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, and AFSYS, and is known for her analytical skills, organizational strength, and stakeholder engagement. Josephine’s career reflects a commitment to financial integrity, operational efficiency, and continuous professional development.
